11 сотрудников NHS уволены после несанкционированного доступа к медицинским записям жертв нападений в Ноттингеме

A new scandal has emerged following the 2023 Nottingham attacks that shocked the United Kingdom. Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust confirmed that 11 healthcare employees were dismissed after allegedly accessing the medical records of victims involved in the attacks without authorisation.

The incident relates to the June 2023 attacks carried out by Valdo Calocane, in which Nottingham University students Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar, both aged 19, and 65-year-old school caretaker Ian Coates were killed. Three additional people were injured during the attacks.

According to reports published by The Guardian and Sky News, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust launched an internal investigation in early 2025 after concerns were raised that hospital staff had improperly accessed confidential patient records connected to the victims. Following the investigation, 11 employees were dismissed and a further 14 staff members received disciplinary sanctions.

The revelations triggered significant public outrage. Emma Webber, the mother of Barnaby Webber, described the incident as a “horrific breach of privacy.” Families of the victims claimed that as many as 150 individuals may have accessed the records, suggesting the scale of the breach could be much larger than initially disclosed.

NHS Trust officials stated that only staff directly involved in patient care are permitted to access medical records and emphasised that any other access is considered entirely unacceptable. Medical Director Dr Manjeet Shehmar said that accessing patient information without legitimate clinical justification represents a serious violation of professional standards.

Following the incident, the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), Nottinghamshire Police, and healthcare regulatory bodies became involved in the investigation. It was also reported that the professional licences of certain nurses and doctors could now face review.

Under UK data protection and patient confidentiality laws, medical records are subject to strict legal safeguards. Legal experts stressed that unauthorised access to health records may constitute not only disciplinary misconduct but also a serious personal data breach under UK law.
